Watersmeet Food Pantry Needs Your Help!

The Watersmeet St. Vincent DePaul food pantry has been part of our community for over 30 years.  We typically serve over 60 families per month, however, lately the number of families is increasing steadily.  And with the holidays approaching, we expect needs to increase even further.  At this time, we do not have the funds to provide turkeys to all the families for Thanksgiving, nor hams for Christmas.

To complicate matters, the current political situation is causing many families increased food insecurity in multiple ways.  At this time, we recognize that any delay of SNAP benefits will be felt in our community.  SNAP is the nation’s largest food assistance program and one of the most effective tools to reduce food insecurity.  Nearly 13% of Michigan households, approximately, 1.4 million people, receive SNAP benefits.  About 43% are families with children and 36% are families with members who are older adults or disabled.  Any delay will put increased stress on families relying on SNAP benefits and on agencies working to meet an increase in demand.

We will continue to work with our partners to navigate the current situation and support our neighbors with compassion and humanity.  However, we need help.  We greatly appreciate any product donations and monetary donations at this critical time.

Please mail your monetary donations to Watersmeet Food Pantry, PO Box 11.  Watersmeet, MI  49969.  Product donations can be left in the receptacle in the foyer of the township offices.

Thank you for your help at this difficult time.
